Help families attend a Saint Emmelia Conference!

Why is the Readathon important?

It is costly to run a conference that provides comfortable accommodations, plenty of food, and inspirational/information speakers. While we do everything in our power to keep the costs low, inflation has made providing enough food at a low cost nearly impossible.

The purpose of the Readathon is to raise money that will be used towards providing food for each conference, minimizing the registration costs for every family who wants to attend! You can help Orthodox homeschooling families attend a conference by reading along with us!

How does it work?

First, register at the link below when you’re ready. Each child in your family must register separately.

Second, ask neighbors, fellow parishioners, or co-op members to sponsor you for the Readathon. You should work with them to agree on a rate, for example: $0.10/minute, $10/hr, or $25/book. Some people prefer to offer a flat rate, such as $100. Here is a template letter you can send out or adapt for asking people in-person. Make sure to fill out this form with each sponsor’s information. You can look for sponsors between now and August 31st!

Third, begin tracking your reading on August 1st. You will need to track each metric that a sponsor has agreed on (minutes, hours, books, etc.). Any reading counts—whether it’s for school, for fun, for church, or for something else! Audiobooks and read-alouds to also count. You should be sure to track every time you read so that you don’t forget to include valuable time spent reading!

Fourth, inform your sponsors of your reading benchmarks on September 1st. Share this link with your sponsors so they can submit their payment: https://bit.ly/readsponsors24. Sponsors can also send their donations by check, but they should still submit that form.

Fifth, make sure all of your sponsors submit their donations. Please consider sending them thank you notes (we will be sending notes out as well).
